The Heinola laundry building, where Bistro Tango & Matto now operates, has a long and colourful history that dates back to the 19th century. The same location was originally a red-brick liquor factory, where liquor production began in the 1880’s. Later, the factory served as a power plant until it was converted into a laundry. In addition to laundry operations, the building also hosted club nights on weekends, when the space filled with washing machines transformed into a stage for live music and dance.

This multifaceted past is still visible in the atmosphere of Bistro Tango & Matto. The restaurant’s interior has preserved the spirit of the old building, and the rag rugs hanging from the ceiling pay homage to the space’s laundry days and former festive club culture. Within the same walls that once produced liquor and later ran a laundry, you can today enjoy a relaxed and high-quality French-Scandinavian bistro culture.
